Next to rules, there is nothing that tells more about the nature of a role-playing than adventures. Settings are nice, but after all, this very plain, modern age Earth allows for every kind of genre in fiction. Or take Dark Sun (c), from D&D, what can stop you to use it for a horror game? So, what I’m going to do is to write the adventures first, and then, with that information, revise the setting. Instead of imagining up some locations and hoping that it would come handy for adventures, I’m creating the adventures and then the locations I need for them. The world thus created will be further developed in the last part of the game.
Yes, I’m changing the order. Book III Adventures will be Book II, while Book II New Paris, will become Book III New Paris.
And so, without further ado, let me introduce you to the adventures.
1.- Introductory Chapter
This chapter will make the Introduction for the book, and it will detail the common structure for all adventures, just in the old “Newsies & Pickpockets” game
2.- The Hidden Prince
The same adventure that graced “Newsies & Pickpockets”, yet revised.
3.- Hotel Versailles
An adventure inspired — not copied and pasted — by the game being shared on this very blog.
4.- Treasure Hunting
A few enterprising kids, a story of a pirate from the southern seas and a treasure map.
5.- The mean old witch
The Inner Expanses of New Paris is not the place to get lost at night, not in an alley you never thought it was there, not when, no matter what you do there is no escape.
6.- The Newsboy Strike
The big newspapers want to make more money, and have found that making the newsies pay more for the bundles is the way to go. An adventure inspired by both fiction and history.
7.- Mars!
Our heroes help a gaunt shabby old man, with four fingers on each hand. An adventure of space exploration and steam-age science fiction.
8.- Forsaken!
As you return from school to your wealthy home in Royal Island, nobody, absolutely nobody up to your nanny, parents and siblings remember who you are.
An one-shot adventure for a small number of players (up to 3).
9.- The Kid-nappers
There has been rumors running for two months, kids are being kidnapped out of New Paris. Then you saw it with your very eyes, when your best friend was taken to the sewers. Will you be able to rescue him? Will you be the next?
10.- Hi, Sprechen Sie German?
As you were immigrating from Hanover, Germany, your ship sunk. The first life boat, loaded with children and a seaman, was the only one that could be downed before the SMS Gazelle capsized, leaving you orphans.
Rescued and taken to New Paris, you must learn to survive in a foreign city, with nothing but a few pfennigs and your own ingenuity.
Last words
That’s what I have planned. I’m now printing this stuff, and going offline to start working on it right away. But I will check this blog later, of course, so don’t hesitate to comment or offer your own ideas. I’m all ears, as always.
