A few words

So here it’s the first scene of the Hotel Versailles adventure. As you can see, I’m more or less following the structure of a movie script. This has been a very simple scene, in which I haven’t used any Newsies and Bootblack rules at all, just the Mythic GME tools. Next Scene to come soon.

A rough wake up. Scene 1

Interior. Staff dorms – Boys. Dawn

Tad(14) is pouring water in a bowl. Frank(9) is already washing his hands and chest. Through a narrow window a red sun rises over the dome of the New Paris Opera House, casting a gentle light in the small room. A double deck bed, a low cabinet, a corner table with two old chairs no longer fit for guests, that’s all. Outside a newsboy darts through the street showing a paper as a banner.

  • Tad: Quick with that soap.
  • Frank. Almost done.
  • Tad: Then clear it. Mondieu(*), you are a snowball.

Young Frank is covered in foam from nose tip to belly button.

  • Frank: (Still his neck) I can’t hear silly words.
  • Tad: That’s because the soap in your head.

Two loud knocks interrupt the scene. Tad rushes to open the door, two burly members of the New Paris Constabulary are at the door, staring at poor Frank.

  • Cop1: This is an official investigation. There has been a robbery in this hotel. Get a shirt and go with us, the Chief Investigator wants to question you.

  • Tad (pale): May I finish washing meself first?

  • Cop1: Yes, just don’t make us wait.

(*) A New Paris slang word for I’m exasperated.

No N&B rules were used on this scene at all.

Mythic GME Notes

(You need to own the Mythic GME — published by Word Mill Games (c) — to understand the following information. Though basically you set up a scene and then roll to see if it’s altered or interrupted and make questions to a Fate Table which answers in oracle-like fashion two words statements that the player needs to interpret).

Interior. Staff dorms – Boys. Night

  • Chaos 5

Intended Plot:

Cops wake up all the hotel staff in the middle of the night, questioning the hotel staff regarding the disappearance of the Star of Malabar, a jewel. Result Altered Scene – “Procrastinate Home” Chaos +1 = 6 The Chief Investigator decides to focus on the crime scene, leaving questioning for the early morning.

  • Question: Will the Hotel Remain closed for the investigation? Chances: Likely. Result: Barely Yes, the guest would not be allowed to leave the premises except by direct permission of the Chief Investigator, once he’s satisfied they have no involvement in the robbery. No new guests would be allowed to check in.
