So I am looking for a freelance writer to help me with one of the Adventures programmed to be included in Newsies & Bootblacks: The Newsboy Strike. And I’m paying, perhaps not as you deserve, but I am paying.

That other strike

There is no way around, this historic event was the one in which Newsies, the Disney movie was based on. The last thing I want is a re-telling of that film. A Game Master playing with their friends can, of course, play the game as they want, but I cannot and will not publish anything that can be thought as a copyright infringement. It’s against the spirit of MiniM Role-Playing to begin with. So, give me something original, take inspiration where you want, but give the players something original.

In New Paris

The adventure should be based on New Paris, which you will be able to imagine on Newsies & Pickpockets, on this blog and through my game book: That’s Swell.

In short: Big, fascinating city, full of back alleys and all sort of people. Think New York, but with a French twist. Low steampunk (flying battleships bad, experimental ornitopter good), Low fantasy (that old lady could be a witch good, magic wands sold across the street bad).

Interested?

(If not I’d appreciate if you could share, twit it or help me as you want)

Requirements:

1. Nothing shorter than 2,000 words and nothing longer than 3,000 words.

2. Rated PG-13 at most, if possible keep it at PG or G.

3. Newsies and Bootblacks uses the following structure for its adventures.

Title:

Player expertise and / or suggest age range:

Short quote (can be fake)

Start here:

Initial situation. It can be a scene or (less preferred) an introduction. Include the season in which the adventure should take place.

“All you want is”:

Objectives of the adventure. They must be clear.

First Act: Divided into scenes

  • Scene #number “Scene Title”
  • Interior or Exterior; Location; Day, Night or Darkness;

Second Act:

Third Act:

(only the first Act is essential, there’s no upper limits to the number of Acts a N&B adventure can have)

It all came up to:

Final Scene and an epilogue if needed.

Rumors:

Rumors are rated from A to E, according to their likelihood with A being “almost certain” to E being “in your dreams”. Rumors allow the Game Master to tailor the adventure to the tastes of the groups and/or a measure of surprise.

Bits and notes:

Notes for the adventure, special rules and such.

“Friends, foes and innocent bystanders”:

Non player characters, stats aren’t needed – but I’d appreciate them.

4. Notes

  • This is a minimalist game keep every short and to the point.
  • Keep the descriptions to a minimum.
  • Don’t put the adventure in place of the players’ imagination.
  • And, above all, make it fun.

Newsies and Bootblacks is still being developed. However, the rules and setting are based strongly on “Newsies and Pickpockets” which is available for download on 1000 monkeys and on the Free Role-playing Games Compedium. N&P includes a sample adventure that you can use to guide you

How we will carry out things

Dates: I need the draft by the end of July.

Payment: Send me a rough idea with a quote of your price. On agreement, half the price will be paid as soon as the draft is delivered, the other half on reception of the finished manuscript.

This is my very first game, and I can’t pay much, but I will pay whatever I agree to. Obviously if I like your work and the game sells well I could hire you for other work

Questions, etc, just comment away or contact me

¡Eres un fenómeno! Excuse me, but I don’t know the English for that, and I was in the need of telling you. I will write something for sure, and you won’t pay anything for sure. Well, some beers in the next Spanish game-con.

They only problem will be my poor English. But I expect to be able to deal with it.

    Greetings!
