One year ago a famous Spanish writer was challenged by a representative of the record industry to upload his book, “if he had the guts”.

He had the guts. He uploaded his book, shared it with everyone, and created a movement. Unlibrouneuro.com (One book, one euro) lets you download a selection of Spanish bestsellers. All they ask is that you donate 1€ or more to Save the Children. No safeguards, they go by the honor system, and it is working.

OK, I’m not famous, but I choose to trust in you.

Newsies & Bootblacks will be available as a free download. I will ask you to donate $1 to Love’s Bridge, or more ^_^. And we will go by the honor system. What’s more, if you do not have access to a credit card — or nothing but red numbers — I will not be pushing you to donate anything. Are you 14? Dad’s not going to let you use his card to donate? No problem: just download it and, if you like it, share it.

Newsies & Bootblacks is 210+ pages long now — not counting the primer, a simplified version with a sample adventure. It is a fully indexed pdf. The rules work, the game is fun, and pretty original if I can brag about it. I believe $1 is a pretty good deal.

So why is it not out now?

There is one person who helped me in this game; I thought she did an impressive job correcting my English Grammar and going beyond what could be expected. So, I’d want to include something more than a line on my book. You might think that’s advertising, and I will have to live with that, because I know that what I’m doing it’s only fair.

Besides, I’m scared to let you see my baby. MiniM role-playing will continue or not depending on how many of you donate. I have loved the experience of creating Newsies and Bootblacks; that is not going to change no matter what you think about the game, or what you do. But it has also be stressing: if you have ever created a game, imagine doing that almost alone and in a second language.

Don’t take me wrong. I love English, I love writing and I’m a gamer, but this game has meant long evenings before a computer, after long days at the office.

Why am I doing this?

In two words: Newsies and Bootblacks. Tomorrow, I will fully explain what I mean.

As for now, I am asking you to share about Newsies and Bootblacks and this blog. Do it for your friends, tell your Victorian-retro-steampunkish-vintage lovers. Tell role-players, tell those who care. I think this game deserves a look and I know Love’s Bridge deserves help.
